"Travels in Texas" and diary, 1841-[184-?].

Diary (WA MSS S-496) and manuscript account of an 1841 journey from Galveston to Austin (WA MSS S-495). The diary includes Thomas Falconer's experiences with the Texan Santa Fé Expedition and a sketch by Falconer entitled "Entrance to the Church, within the Alamo at Bexar, Texas, April 22, 1841," a silhouette of Falconer, and a letter from George W. Kendall to Falconer.

George Wilkins Kendall settled in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1835. In 1837, he and Francis A. Lumsden established the Times-Picayune, a New Orleans newspaper. Kendall participated in the Texan Santa Fé Expedition in 1841 and was subsequently held prisoner in Mexico. During the Mexican War he accompanied United States forces under Zachary Taylor and Winfield Scott, reporting war news for the Times-Picayune. Falconer, Thomas, 1805-1882

Thomas Falconer (1805-1882) took part in the Texas-Santa Fé expedition of 1841-42 and was appointed arbitrator on behalf of Canada to determine the boundaries between Canada and New Brunswick. In 1850, he was judge of the county courts of Glamorganshire and Brecknockshire and of the district of Rhayader in Radnorshire, Wales.
